This reminds me of what has happen to my brothers son. DF over 30 yeats ago for drunkness, gone through three marriages. Before I left the borg 8 years ago my brother was crying to me about his son not coming back to the cult. I asked him if he ever help his son to get help for his drinking problem? He said no, then I ask him do you think reading the bible, going to meetings and praying is all a person needs to stop drinking. No answer from him then I told him these things will not work and his son needs professional help not going to meetings and field service. More silence. I have no idea what ever happen to to him. He is now 57 years old. I knew X-CO's who were heavy drinkers and they never got D.F. Still Totally ADD

50 Years since the first moon landing
by eyeslice2 inin july of 1969, i was 16 years old and was pretty excited by the prospect that the us would shortly land a man on the moon.
however, i remember, vividly and older brother at the time confidently stating that man would never walk on the moon, quoting psalms 115 - "as for the heavens, they belong to jehovah.
but the earth he has given to the sons of man.

My dad thought the same way. Always telling me god would not allow it to happen. For me at the age of 15 it was one of the greatest things I ever seen. Still Totally ADD

They were great when we came a cross a murder that happen seconds before we arrived. The polices drove into the the murder site with guns drawed on us and the bad guy. After they figure out who was who they treated us with great respect. The other day the murderer got 20 years to life. Which he has to serve the whole 20 years or more. Still Totally ADD

What is the biggest doctrinal mistake made by the Watchtower /JWorg. ?
by Finkelstein inpersonally i think it is 1914 and the following " this generation " doctrine.. this particular doctrine went right against jesus's own words of " no one knows of the time not even he " .
he also admonished his true followers to not set a time upon god's own sacred time .. the leaders of the wts even back to the late 1800's set a time calculated on their own theology 1874 being the first time set and proclaimed by c t russell, also proclaiming 1914 would likely be the year of the final day of judgment armageddon.
all throughout the 20th century the wts held to this doctrine but was eventually revised of course when it was realized this generation had passed away who saw the events of 1914. .

It felt so good to read a card from my youngest son today. It was a funny card about duct tape and cussing. It was a day of joy for me being it was my first fathers day card from my son since he and his family left the cult. It got me to start thinking how much time and joy we lost due to the cult and what kind of father I was to my two sons. I must admit in many ways not that great. Being a born-in everything we did revolved around the cult a cult that does everything to destory a true happy family life.
Here are the things I feel we as a family lost. Things that bring a family closer such as, no birthdays, christmas, thanksgivings, mother and father days, 4th of July fireworks, watching you kids being in sports, boy or girl scouts, school bands and educational achievment. All lost to a could care less about you cult. Instead all they had was 5 meetings a week, assemblies, conventions and knocking on strangers doors. Only making room for a movie or a vacation in between cult mandates. I feel so bad I could not see the light long ago when you kids were young. But I know I can't change all this lost time but to look to the future knowing 3 of my grandchildren will live a more cult free life. Trying to be the best grand father I can be as well as a better father to my youngest son.
With all that said I would like to say Happy Fathers Day Son. You are so much smarter than I am by leaving the cult at a younger age than I was when I left. I love you and your family so much. Have a great day with your children. With love your father. P.S. Any thoughts or comments from other fathers out there? Please feel free to give them. Take care. Still Totally ADD

Those that need to see a Therapist / and those that don`t is there a correlation of the two ?
by smiddy3 inthere have been a number of threads / posts here over the years about ex jw`s needing to see therapists for what they are going through , and i can appreciate that.. obviously there are many ex jw`s on here that haven`t ever felt the need to see a therapist ,and i`m just wondering why not ?.
why does one feel the need and another does not ?.
is it to do with born ins as against those who were converts ?

smiddy3 for me a born-in and my wife who was a convert was a big help in getting rid of my cult thinking. Also this site was a great help in seeing others who were going though what I was feeling. Between the two it was my salvation for leaving the cult. I went through therapy serveral years earlier before I left. It was the thing that help me wake-up. I feel everyone is different in their emotional makeup and some need more help than others. Whatever direction one takes it is all good if you are able to escape the cult. Take care and what a great topic. Still Totally ADD

Why the Catholic Church outlast Jehovah's Witnesses
by no-zombie inmany of us who are old timers in "truth", will clearly remember how we and the organization gloated when christendom began selling off their churches, as we saw many ending up becoming cafe's and art galleries.
i personally remember being told (both in general conversation and in print) that the fall of their congregant numbers meant that most churches were ultimately attended by the elderly and it was clearly linked to the "drying up of her waters" in reference to the fall of babylon and babylon the great..
how ironic, that this very situation has now befallen the society and our local kingdom halls..

I don't know if this mean anything but my mother always told me when I was a child she went from a beautiful Catholic church to a dirty basement below a printery business. Yes today most KH's are nice clean buildings but they they just don't have the pizzazz the Catholic churches have. Plus they have been around since 300's AD and the Wt. has only been around for 140 years. Just a thought. Still Totally ADD

"The Calendar of Jehovah God" - a historical tidbit
by OrphanCrow inin 1935, clayton woodworth (editor of the golden age - later the awake!
magazine) devised a 'new' calendar that he proposed was far superior to the pagan calendars that have been used in human history.he wrote a three part series for the golden age (i am not sure if these were actually published) that laid out his justifications for how this new calendar was more accurate and of course, was right in line with the divine plan.
the calendar was published in the 1935 yearbook, but the watchtower magazine later published a retraction to the calendar.
